How else but on a river would you travel with such ease, unpacking just once and enjoying the ever-changing scenery along the banks?

Comfortable and convenient, river cruising offers a greater variety of destinations than you can find any other way. Spend less time getting there, and more time being there. Small wonder so many people have fallen in love with this relaxing, immersive and thoroughly enjoyable form of travel.

Viking River Cruises—every detail matters

Inspiring destinations, hand-selected itineraries, expert tour guides, state-of-the-art ships, fine cuisine, excellent service and remarkable value—our success is defined by all these things. But there’s something else, too: personal attention to every detail. It’s the way your bartender has your drink ready for you at just the right time. The gentle guidance from your tai chi master during your lesson in China, or the handwritten directions from your concierge to the best coffeehouse in Vienna.

By owning and operating our ships, no detail escapes our attention. It sets us apart from our competitors. Every aspect of your cruise, from expertly designed menus to carefully crafted enrichment programs and beautifully appointed ships is planned to bring you closer to experiencing the most from your destination.

At Viking, we never forget that looking after you well is how we became the world’s leading river cruise line. It’s why our guests return again and again. And why we consistently have been the most awarded river cruise line worldwide.

Enriching encounters every place, every day

Why did baroque chamber music develop? How do you say ‘thank you’ in Chinese? What were the Russian Czars’ accomplishments? We understand that you travel to explore, to experience, to understand—to gain more insight than can be obtained from simply passing through. And, when it comes to showing you the world, Viking has an unrivaled depth of knowledge and expertise.

Our carefully crafted itineraries and daily shore excursions include must-see highlights and delightful surprises. These expertly guided tours bring you closer to the art, architecture, history and people. We have hand-selected guides, born and raised locally to provide an in-depth+ understanding no other cruise line can match. We also choose entertainers to bring you closer too: from Shanghai Acrobats to Russia’s Mariinsky Theatre musicians Viennese orchastras.

We have a comprehensive series of included shore excursions during every cruise, complemented by an enriching onboard program. Our Culture CurriculumSM brings history and culture to life. Watch a local German glassblower or learn about French Impressionism. Artists, performers and professors from eminent institutions all all provide you with deep insight into your destination. We even stock our ship’s library with books relevant to your cruise.

Accompany your chef on a shopping trip to the local market. Meet local fine food and wine purveyors. With Viking, food is not just for sustenance, it’s a joy to be shared. Make apple strudel or whip up a fondant au chocolat — our tastings, cooking classes and hands-on demonstrations are the perfect way to expand your mind and satisfy your taste buds.

Six Reasons to visit Phuket aboard a Star Clippers Tall Ship

Miami, FL – Thailand is one of the most visited countries in the world, drawing millions of tourists each year — and for good reason. The pristine beaches, year-round sunshine, friendly locals and, of course, the beloved Thai cuisine make it the perfect place to escape the stresses of life. This country’s popularity, which can translate to bustling cities and crowded resorts on the mainland, is why the more discerning traveler is opting for a hidden gem, known as Phuket. This remote island in Southern Thailand offers a different Thailand experience, where the focus is on the experience.

Star Clippers offers four unique, seven-day sailing adventures in Southeast Asia aboard the 170-passenger Star Clipper, all with Phuket as its home base. The Northern Phuket and Southern Phuket sailings explore the islands of Southern Thailand, while the Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand itinerary begins or ends in vibrant Singapore and features ports of call in Malaysia. Here are six great reasons why a sailing in the waters around Phuket aboard a majestic tall ship is the ideal way to rekindle the romance, discard the stresses and discover the magic of one of the world’s paradises.

  1. Escape the Hustle and Bustle: Many travelers don’t realize that in addition to the popular (and sometimes crowded) mainland, Thailand is comprised of hundreds of tiny islands in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, where crowds are few and life moves along at a leisurely pace. Guests on the Star Clipper visit some of the most secluded of these islands, including Ko Surin, a national park, that comprises five islands near the Myanmar border and Ko Adong, an important nesting area for sea turtles. The Star Clipper’s small ship scale allows it to visit ports and bays inaccessible to the larger cruise ships – and means you are not competing with their thousands of passengers.
  2. Get the Long View:The topography of Southern Thailand is like no place else, with its sheer limestone crags, lush rain forests and crystal clear blue water – making for a paradisiacal setting. What better place to enjoy the view (and get a few photos) than from the deck of a tall ship as it sails through these picturesque island chains? Guests are welcome (and encouraged) to climb the 100 feet to the top of the ship’s crow’s nest for an unforgettable vista.
  3. Dive In: Divers and snorkelers love Thailand, especially the waters around the Similan Islands, known for offering some of the best diving experiences in the world. With water clear enough to see nearly 100 feet down, the underwater panoramas here are worthy of the hype. A certified dive master on board the Star Clipper means guests can choose from diving or snorkeling adventures here.
  4. Don’t Sacrifice Luxury: Resort lovers looking for a change will love the modern luxury and relaxed pace of a Star Clippers sailing. Spacious accommodations, gleaming teak decks with ample space for sunning and multiple pools, and gourmet dining allow for a luxury vacation. Guests looking to get active can try their hand at hoisting the sails with the crew or trying out a variety of complimentary water sports like paddle boarding, wind surfing and water skiing.
  5. Go Solo: Cruising can be expensive for solo travellers. So Star Clippers is waiving single supplements on all Far East sailings in 2017 and 2018, which translates to starting fares of $1,560CAD for a seven-night sailing. The intimate size of the ship – just 170 guests – and welcoming environment makes it easy for single travellers to make new friends.
  6. See More:The trek to Thailand is a long haul, so it only makes sense that travellers want to get the most out of their time in the Far East. Star Clippers’ affordable land tour packages, which can be added for pre- or post-sailing, include hotel nights, tours and transfers. The three-day Lion City Tour in Singapore, for example, includes two night’s accommodation with breakfast, a half day city tour and two complimentary transfers, and starts at $479CAD per person, double. Those looking for a shorter stay can take advantage of a one-night free hotel stay in Phuket pre or post cruise.
