Accessible Shore Excursions will be available on select voyages to the Caribbean and Central America
(Miami, FL – December 11, 2018) Silversea Cruises demonstrates its commitment to taking guests closer to the authentic beauty of the world with the introduction of accessibility-enhanced shore excursions. Through its partnership with Accessible Travel Solutions, a company devoted to expanding opportunities for disabled and senior travelers, the cruise line is offering new accessible excursions in nine destinations in the Caribbean and Central America, and additional shore excursions will be developed for the Mediterranean in 2019.
The new partnership enables Silversea’s disabled and senior guests to travel deeper in each destination, offering immersive shore excursions that showcase a destination’s history, culture and natural beauty. The collection of shore excursions incorporates such enhancements as vehicles with wheelchair lifts or ramps; trips to sites and attractions that have step-free access, accessible restrooms, and routes that avoid steps; and guides who are experienced with accessibility issues.
Following is a sample of some of the tours currently available in the Caribbean and Central America as part of the partnership with Accessible Travel Solutions:
Accessible Pitons & Waterfalls — Castries, St. Lucia
St. Lucia’s natural wonders and cultural riches are unlocked during this fun, full-day exploration of the island. Highlights include a visit to the charming fishing village of Anse La Raye, a special stop to witness and photograph the majestic Pitons, and access to a step-free garden path in Soufrière’s Diamond Botanical Gardens – from which guests can admire its signature attraction, the Diamond Waterfall.
Monkey Sanctuary & Iguana Hideout for Limited Mobility — Roatan Island, Honduras
This adventure is a fun way to experience fascinating Roatan wildlife and nature first-hand. Participants interact with playful primates at a local monkey sanctuary, browse crafts at a local flea market, pet-friendly iguanas at an iguana and marine wildlife park, and enjoy an inspiring scenic island drive.
Accessible St. Kitts — Basseterre, St. Kitts
The colorful, colonial charm and untouched natural beauty of St. Kitts can be easily appreciated during this accessibility-enhanced experience. Highlights include the chance to explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Brimstone Hill Fortress, a visit to the historic Romney Manor, and a special stop to marvel at spectacular ocean and island vistas from the Timothy Hill Scenic Outlook.
Accessible Mayan Experience & Scenic Drive — Cozumel, Mexico
Traveling deeper to discover authentic Mayan culture is the focus of this tour. A comfortable, guided drive around Cozumel stops at a cultural center for a taste of ancient Mayan life, ceremonies and foods, including tortillas and chocolate. Then, a visit to the ruins of El Cedral offers a fascinating insight into the island’s oldest community. A tequila tasting and free time to relax on an accessible beach provide further immersion into the charm of this tropical isle.

Grenada’s cultural and natural treasures are easily discovered on this enriching exploration of the Caribbean’s quintessential spice island. Participants savor the aromas of fresh nutmeg, cocoa and vanilla at a local spice market; visit a local nutmeg factory; learn about the origins of the spice trade at the historic Dougaldston Spice Estate; and complete their adventure with a panoramic drive through a tropical rainforest to experience the Grand Etang National Park.

Exclusive Arctic air offer and all-inclusive Antarctica package provide generous savings incentives for polar explorations
(Miami, FL – November 13, 2018) With 2018 marking 10 years of luxury expedition cruising for Silversea and its guests, the industry-leading cruise line takes the opportunity to highlight an array of polar expedition itineraries for summer 2019 and winter 2019/2020. The voyages will enable guests to travel deeper into the otherworldly landscapes of both Polar Regions, in ultimate comfort, as they journey closer to the authentic beauty of the world.
ARCTIC — SUMMER 2019
In this beautiful realm of the polar bear, voyages aboard Silver Cloud and Silver Explorer will provide excellent opportunities for guests to witness destination-specific wildlife, unspoiled landscapes and rarely seen cultures on 11 carefully crafted itineraries. Among the highlights are:
The rarely visited volcanic island of Jan Mayen, a haven for humpback and minke whales who feed in its waters, is among the attractions of two 14-day Silver Cloud voyages, departing June 18 and July 22. The first sails from Reykjavik to Tromsø, while the second follows the reverse course of the former. Both voyages explore a host of bucket-list destinations in Iceland and Svalbard, Norway.
Isolated Bear Island in the Svalbard archipelago, a nature reserve of steep cliffs and some of the largest bird colonies in the northern hemisphere, offers opportunities for guests to spot puffins, guillemots, black-legged kittiwakes, and other remarkable seabirds. A pair of 10-day voyages aboard Silver Cloud, departing July 2 and 12, will incorporate stops in this spectacular destination as they focus on Norway’s extraordinary Svalbard region, with its stunning fjords and glaciers. Guests also stand to witness amazing wildlife in Svalbard.
A circumnavigation of Iceland will reveal a spectrum of natural wonders. From the geological playground around Lake Mývatn to a glacial lagoon and recent volcanic eruptions, all can be enjoyed, and more, when Silver Cloud departs Reykjavik on August 5 on a 9-day roundtrip exploration of this breathtaking island nation that sits near the top of the world.
Silversea’s first crossing of the Northeast Passage — a legendary sea route through the Arctic Circle, along the coastline of Asia and Europe. The voyage departs August 10 from Nome for a 25-day journey to Tromsø aboard Silver Explorer. This unique itinerary encompasses the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wrangel Island, where polar bears and walrus roam and migratory birds nest; Champ Island, known for its otherworldly landscape; Tikhaya Bay’s Rubini Rock, with its stunning basalt columns; the archipelago of Severnaya Zemlya, famous for its impressive fjords and majestic glaciers; and the northernmost archipelago in the arctic, Franz Josef Land, with its historically important sites.
The route of the Norse in their explorations of Greenland will be traced by a pair of expeditions: Silver Cloud’s 12-day voyage between Reykjavik and Kangerlussuaq will depart August 14, while Silver Explorer’s 15-day sailing from Reykjavik to St. John’s will depart September 20. These history-focused itineraries also offer opportunities to spot whales, witness massive glaciers and be awed by dramatic landscapes.
Explorer John Franklin’s ill-fated search for the Northwest Passage is at the heart of Silver Cloud’s August 26, roundtrip sailing from Kangerlussuaq. This 16-day Explorer’s Collection voyage is designed for history buffs with an interest in the great age of polar exploration, as well as those who appreciate untouched scenery, majestic fjords and exceptional wildlife.
The world’s longest fjord, Scoresby Sund, is among the highlights of Silver Explorer’s September 5 expedition from Tromsø to Reykjavik. The 15-day adventure weaves together the glacial treasures of the Svalbard Archipelago with the delights of isolated East Greenland.
The possibility of witnessing the northern lights is offered aboard Silver Cloud’s sailing from Kangerlussuaq to Quebec, departing September 11. The 14-day journey is timed to optimize guests’ chances of glimpsing this spellbinding celestial phenomenon, along with other wonders of nature.

We boarded The Silver Wind in Barbados, after a pell-mell dash from Grantley Adams airport (due to the late arrival of our flight from Fort Lauderdale) , eventually arriving at 9:30pm, which felt like minutes before departure! After that headlong dash there was only one place to go – The Bar. We were greeted like long lost friends and served swiftly with flutes of bubbly; at last a quiet moment, to reflect and settle, in the cosy, clubby atmosphere. The rest of the interior of the ship was equally welcoming, more so after the recent refurbishment of the major public areas.
We had a Medallion suite on the 8th deck, for’ard of the swimming pool area, and from the start, our Butler, Vinay delightful Indian man, was courteous, efficient and endlessly patient. He served our breakfasts and afternoon canapés on the balcony and tended to our daily laundry, which was joy. The rest of the crew was equally friendly and courteous and seemed to know our names almost from the moment we boarded; they made it feel like a home away from home.
Our cruise departed from Barbados and took us to Grenada, Bonaire, Aruba, Curaçao and back to Barbados. Our shore excursion on Aruba comprised a little sightseeing, including the lighthouse and then a trip in a semi-submersible to view the wreck German freighter, scuttled during the very early months of WW2. For the rest we wandered the local bazaars and soaked in the atmosphere.
Our voyage was made all the more pleasurable because we were upgraded to a Medallion suite, which included complementary laundry, free and unlimited wifi and a large walk-in closet; another joy. The veranda was large enough for two sun-beds, a small dining table and chairs and a lounger built for two. Overall we were impressed by the friendliness of the staff, the cosy, intimate feel of the ship and the leisurely relaxed pace of life. Would we cruise on the Wind again? Absolutely!

Miami, FL — November 17, 2017: Fresh from a $40 million refurbishment and conversion to an ice-class expedition ship, Silversea’s ultra-luxury Silver Cloud set sail this week from Buenos Aires on her first-ever expedition voyage. Over the course of 16 days, the newly reimagined ship will explore the iceberg sculptures, calving glaciers, and rare and majestic wildlife of Antarctica, while her guests will enjoy such signature comforts as spacious all-suite accommodations with butler service, open bars and five dining options offering sumptuous cuisine, including the only Relais & Châteaux restaurant at sea.
“We are proud to celebrate this momentous occasion when the ship that launched Silversea on a path to redefine luxury travel now embarks on a new path to redefine expedition cruising,” said Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s CEO.
The completely transformed Silver Cloud accommodates 254 guests (200 in polar waters) in exquisitely updated suites, most featuring a private veranda. Her elegantly redesigned public spaces include the new Tor’s Observation Lounge, offering commanding views of the scenery, and refreshed boutiques stocked with essential expedition gear. Other amenities rarely found on an expedition ship include a heated, resort-style pool, the all-new Zàgara Spa, and the new Photo Studio, where a manager, state-of-the-art equipment and professional photo editing software are available to assist guests with their photography.
A fleet of 16 Zodiacs provides unprecedented opportunity for up-close exploration, while 10 kayaks offer a truly personalized experience of nature in the polar realms. Depending on the region, between 20 and 22 passionate and dedicated Expedition Team members are always at hand to share their considerable knowledge and insights. They give lectures in the multi-tiered Explorer Lounge, run workshops, lead Zodiac and kayak trips, and guide nature walks — all of which is complimentary.
Following her first season in Antarctica, Silver Cloud will trace a path up Africa’s seldom-seen western coast to Northern Europe and the Norwegian Arctic, where she will spend the summer sailing glacier-filled bays and fjords in search of polar bears, whales, walruses and other amazing wildlife. Then, a series of expeditions to Iceland, Greenland, Canada, and Central and South America will culminate with a return to Ushuaia for another season of exhilarating Antarctic expeditions.
