Last Port of Call: Silversea’s Silver Spirit Docks in Dubai Ahead of Ambitious Lengthening Project in Italy

Posted By : Courtney Anderson/ 1026 0

Silver Spirit – a multi-award-winning cruise ship in Silversea’s fleet of nine – has made her final port call before undergoing an extensive lengthening project in Italy. Docking in Dubai on February 22, the ship completed an eight-night cruise from Mumbai.

MONACO (PRWEB) FEBRUARY 24, 2018: Silver Spirit will enter dry dock at the industry-leading Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo on March 5, where she will remain until May 1. She will undergo large-scale refurbishment works, which will include the insertion of a prebuilt 15-metre-long (49-feet-long) segment into the ship’s midsection, making her the first luxury ship to be lengthened in this manner. With the aim of augmenting the onboard experience for Silversea guests, the project will dramatically enhance each of the ship’s public spaces with beautiful interior design, taking inspiration from the cruise line’s flagship vessel, Silver Muse, which was delivered by Fincantieri in April last year.

“Based on the wonderful feedback from guests sailing aboard our beautiful Silver Muse, we believe the comprehensive makeover we have planned for Silver Spirit will enrich the onboard experience and be equally appreciated by guests. They will see many of Silver Muse’s innovations and elevated comforts embodied by our reimagined Silver Spirit,” says Christian Sauleau, executive vice president of fleet operations for Silversea.

Enjoyed by the ship’s guests and characterising Silversea’s superior cruising experiences, Silver Spirit’s atmospheric sense of intimacy will not be compromised by the planned enhancements. While some areas will grow in size, evoking the feel of spaciousness and enhancing comfort, special measures have been made to retain the ship’s bijou feel. Silversea’s trademark level of service will also continue: the improved Silver Spirit will enjoy an impressive crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.48.

Following a lengthy phase of research, the turn-key transformation of Silver Spirit will amplify everything that matters most to Silversea’s guests: dining options will increase in variation and advance in quality; additional suites will enrich the onboard accommodation; stylish décor enhancements will be made to existing suites and the ship’s public areas; the pool deck area will be enlarged and reimagined; the addition of a new health and fitness centre will improve wellness facilities; and various other amenities, such as the casino, will undergo tasteful transformations.

Following the enormous success of the distinct gastronomic concepts offered aboard Silver Muse, the dining options on Silver Spirit will be fundamentally reimagined to increase choice and improve guests’ experiences: delivering gastronomic authenticity from across the world, Atlantide, Indochine, Spaccanapoli, and Silver Note will be installed to complement the existing Seishin, La Dame, The Grill, and La Terrazza – each of which will undergo refurbishment. Inspired by guest feedback, menus will be altered and refined across the ship’s prevailing restaurants.

Elsewhere, new public spaces will elevate the overall comfort of the ship. A new addition to Silver Spirit, the Arts Café – an innovative, modern, multi-faceted area – will stimulate guests’ senses on the eighth deck. Offering a relaxed setting for readers and tea/coffee lovers, the Arts Café will display exhibitions and performances. Inspired by Silversea’s Italian heritage, Dolce Vita will occupy pride of place on Silver Spirit. It will be an elegant venue in which sophisticated travellers will gather, interact, and make lifelong friends. Cool cocktails will provide the perfect accompaniments to the smooth sound of live piano. Guests also stand to benefit from the installation of the Zagara spa – a blissful sanctuary that proved to be extremely popular on Silver Muse – and a fitness centre that will boast state-of-the-art facilities.

The lengthening project will create 34 new luxury suites, as well as a Balsorano suite – the pinnacle of onboard accommodation, which will be adorned with decorative items that are of personal value to Silversea’s chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio di Balsorano de Clunieres. The best existing suites on Silver Spirit’s will grow in their appeal, with the addition of handmade Savoir® mattresses, horse hair toppers, and new HD screens for guests’ comfort.

On May 6, Silver Spirit will commence her service with a seven-day cruise between Civitavecchia (Rome) and Barcelona, calling at Porto-Vecchio, Corsica; Livorno; Portofino; Cannes; and Marseilles. Fares start from €3,800 per person with special savings for those bookings made before March 31.

Silver Wind

Silver Wind September 2017

This was a 7 day sailing from Lisbon to Barcelona.  I was the onboard Virtuoso Voyage host.

The Wind is 296 passengers.  A nice small size.  Easy to get on and off.  The staff are amazing.  There isn’t anything they won’t do for you.  All butler suites.  The staterooms are very generous in size.  Beds are very comfortable.  Large bathroom, walk-in closet, sitting area.

As this was a Virtuoso Voyage, our Exclusive event was in Valencia.   Our guide was fabulous and extremely knowledgeable.  I had been to Valencia on a previous voyage but never got to really “see” it.  The value add being on a Virtuoso Voyage cannot be duplicated.  We toured everywhere in that city.  Valencia is truly a modern, with it’s old style still prominent.  Our tour ended in a restaurant on the beach where the locals go.  We had authentic paella, sangria and salad.  It was truly an unforgettable emersion into local culture.

The staff onboard the Wind always make you feel like you are coming back home.  That’s the unique small ship cruise experience.

Food onboard was fabulous.  Lots of choice.  Buffet or a la carte for breakfast and lunch.  My favorite spot was La Terazza for lunch.  Sit outdoors if weather permits.  No need for a reservation at lunch time.  It’s a very relaxing time lunching and checking out the view while being served amazing food by amazing staff.

Silver Wind Caribbean cruise

We boarded The Silver Wind in Barbados, after a pell-mell dash from Grantley Adams airport (due to the late arrival of our flight from Fort Lauderdale) , eventually arriving at 9:30pm, which felt like minutes before departure! After that headlong dash there was only one place to go – The Bar. We were greeted like long lost friends and served swiftly with flutes of bubbly; at last a quiet moment, to reflect and settle, in the cosy, clubby atmosphere. The rest of the interior of the ship was equally welcoming, more so after the recent refurbishment of the major public areas.

We had a Medallion suite on the 8th deck, for’ard of the swimming pool area, and from the start, our Butler, Vinay delightful Indian man, was courteous, efficient and endlessly patient. He served our breakfasts and afternoon canapés on the balcony and tended to our daily laundry, which was joy. The rest of the crew was equally friendly and courteous and seemed to know our names almost from the moment we boarded; they made it feel like a home away from home.

Our cruise departed from Barbados and took us to Grenada, Bonaire, Aruba, Curaçao and back to Barbados. Our shore excursion on Aruba comprised a little sightseeing, including the lighthouse and then a trip in a semi-submersible to view the wreck German freighter, scuttled during the very early months of WW2. For the rest we wandered the local bazaars and soaked in the atmosphere.

Our voyage was made all the more pleasurable because we were upgraded to a Medallion suite, which included complementary laundry, free and unlimited wifi and a large walk-in closet; another joy. The veranda was large enough for two sun-beds, a small dining table and chairs and a lounger built for two. Overall we were impressed by the friendliness of the staff, the cosy, intimate feel of the ship and the leisurely relaxed pace of life. Would we cruise on the Wind again? Absolutely!

Floating Hotels ~ 10 Reasons to Love Cruising

Posted By : Courtney Anderson/ 1250 0

For travellers who want to see the world without compromising on accommodations, today’s cruise ships offer the best of both worlds: transportation, adventure, and ever changing views, plus cosseting and comfort via private balconies, fluffy bedding, butler service, gourmet restaurants, and ethereal spas. There are more than 30 cruise lines in the Virtuoso portfolio, ranging from mega ocean liners to boutique ships, expedition vessels, riverboats, and even yachts. No matter how you set sail, let’s count the ways a cruise will float your boat.

1 ~ HASSEL-FREE RELAXATION
Check in and instantly check out from scheduled responsibilities other than planning your next day in port. From Champagne sail-away toasts to walks along open-air promenades, on itineraries as varied as transatlantic crossings or island-hopping, breath in and let the water views work their wonders.

2 ~ UNPACK JUST ONCE
Enjoy the secret thrill of stowing your luggage out of sight for the duration of the trip. Embarkation, i.e., move-in day, is the last time in 7, 1 or 90 days (or more) that you’ll be bothered with your bags. Cruising allows you to settle in without settling for one setting. From the tropics to the poles, oh, the places you’ll go, all while dressing from a closet, rather than a suitcase.

3 ~ A GANGWAY TO THE WORLD
By river or ocean, cruising lets you hit world highlights – and your bucket list – in each port of call. Float the idea of raising good global citizens by brining the whole family. (Tip: A cruise offers something for all ages, which also makes it an ideal multigenerational getaway with grandparents, children, and everyone in between.)

4 ~ WINING AND DINING
Enjoy foodie favourites in port on on board across the globe. Looking to learn some new cooking skills? Explore the art of miniature desserts or master the science of high-heat grilling in classes at the Culinary Arts Kitchen, a hands-on teaching facility and the very first cooking school from Regent Seven Seas Cruises, aboard its newest ship, Seven Seas Explorer.

5 ~ THE VALUE EQUATION
Cruising’s bundled pricing means you avoid nickling-and-diming, and it can result in some incredible extras, in addition to meals and entertainment. “Crystal, Regent, and some other luxury lines often include business-class airfares which can be almost double when priced separately, so that’s a very nice deal,” says Virtuoso travel advisor Julie Danziger. “Shipboard credits that you can use at the spa or in the shops are also nice perks.” Depending on the line, shore excursions, alcohol, and gratuities may also be included, further enhancing the value.

6 ~ WELLNESS ON THE WATER
Indulge in spas worth their salt scrubs with an array of options from bespoke massages to medi spa treatments, such as noninvasive dermal fillers, skin tightening therapy, and wrinkle treatments offered aboard Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity. For something a little more active, fitness itineraries include options that range from on-deck yoga in Alaska to biking excursions along the banks of the Danube.

7 ~ TAKE THE KIDS
We’ve yet to meet a child who doesn’t love cruising, whether it’s for the kids’ clubs with activities tailored to all ages or for the buffets with unlimited desserts. Baby on board? Entrust children as young as six months to the nannies aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, Norwegian Escape, and rest well for an hour or two.

8 ~ INVITATION-ONLY EVENTS
Virtuoso Voyages is a perks program that offers shipboard credits, entree to private cocktail parties and exclusive shore excursions, and more. For example, explore old and new Shanghai on a private tour that spans a sixteenth-century residence, art deco architectural icons, and a forward-looking urban planning museum with Seabourn, Holland America Line, Windstar Cruises, Oceania Cruises, or Silversea Cruises. Gain access to these complimentary extras via your travel advisor.

9 ~ LEARN ALONG THE WAY
Today’s cruises aren’t conga-line cliches – many now offer educational opportunities, workshops by renowned experts, special guest speakers, and more. Plus, it’s never a bad time to discover a new talent or develop a skill, like learning the ropes of photography in the Galapagos Islands with the help of certified photographers aboard National Geographic Endeavour II, Lindblad Expeditions’ latest ship.

10 ~ “WOW” EXPERIENCES
Living large, immersing yourself in another culture, and giving back are just a few of the memories you might make at sea.
