The first and only homeported ship to cruise to Cuba from Port Canaveral, Norwegian Sun, during her summer season, welcomed over 30,000 guests on 15 voyages on her four-day Cuba cruise itinerary with port of calls in Key West and an overnight in Havana. The final, and 16th sailing to Cuba from Port Canaveral, departs September 3rd for a five-day voyage to Key West, an overnight in Havana and a visit to Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas.

Following this successful first season, Norwegian Sun will return to Port Canaveral in April 2019 with even more Cuba itineraries, offering travelers the chance to experience the warm culture and people of the Caribbean island through a variety of Office of Foreign Assets Control compliant excursions available through Norwegian Cruise Line.

“Since we first sailed to Cuba in 2017 from Miami, it has become one of our most popular destinations,” said Andy Stuart, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line. “Norwegian Sun last homeported in Port Canaveral in the 2011/2012 fall/winter season and we were excited to return and showcase her latest enhancements and offer a new itinerary in the region.”

“We’re very proud of the success of the Norwegian Sun sailings from Port Canaveral and thrilled that Norwegian Cruise Line has chosen to continue its very popular Cuba itineraries from here,” said Captain John Murray, chief executive officer of Port Canaveral. “This important decision by Norwegian to bring Norwegian Sun ‘back home’ to our port validates our commitment to meeting the needs and expectations of our valued cruise partners.”

Port Canaveral was Norwegian Sun’s first homeport, following a three-week, bow-to-stern renovation in April in Victoria, BC as part of The Norwegian Edge®, the company’s program designed to elevate the standard of excellence across its fleet. Built in 2001, Norwegian now features refreshed staterooms and public spaces, and boasts three new venues including Los Lobos Cantina, a Mexican restaurant offering a modern take on traditional favorites; Bliss Ultra Lounge, a new bar and nightclub; and Spinnaker Lounge, featuring a larger than life dance floor.

The abstract art within the staterooms and suites are the ideal complement to the new and modern feel.

The renovations also touched dining outlets and public spaces including Cagney’s, La Cucina, Le Bistro, Teppanyaki, the Mandara Spa, Stardust Lounge Theater, Splash Academy and more.

Seabourn To Make First-Ever Visits To Cuba Beginning In Late 2019, Visiting Unique Destinations On Four Distinct Itineraries

SEATTLE, August 9, 2018 – Seabourn, the world’s finest ultra-luxury cruise line, has received approval to begin sailing to Cuba from Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, starting with a 12-day cruise aboard Seabourn Sojourn departing Miami on November 4, 2019. Seabourn becomes Carnival Corporation’s third cruise brand currently approved to sail to Cuba.

Bookings for Seabourn’s cruises to Cuba open today. Guests can choose from four separate itineraries with five different departure dates. The addition of Seabourn’s sailings will help meet the growing demand for luxury travel experiences to Cuba.

The 11-, 12-, and 14-day sailings will visit five ports in Cuba, calling at three or four on each itinerary and providing guests the ideal opportunity to discover the different regions on this vast island. All five voyages will feature overnight stops in the historic capital city Havana, offering travelers ample opportunity to see and experience this vibrant destination. The visit to Havana allows guests time to explore the designated UNESCO World Heritage Site during its 500th anniversary year and immerse themselves in a wide array of historical and cultural experiences.

“For many luxury travelers, they aim to find new places to explore and discover meaningful new cultural opportunities, and Cuba is one of the most sought-after emerging destinations for many of our guests,” said Richard Meadows, president of Seabourn. “We are excited to finally be able to include Cuba in our itineraries, and our guests and travel partners have been anxiously awaiting an ultra-luxury travel experience with a wider selection of destinations in this relatively undiscovered Caribbean treasure. These Cuba itineraries are fresh and sure to satisfy the curiosity of anyone who has considered visiting.”

Seabourn Sojourn will call at five fascinating ports in Cuba throughout the season, offering ample opportunities for guests to discover history and culture, as well as several UNESCO World Heritage Sites:

· Antilla (Nipe Bay) – The entry to the deep-cut Nipe Bay passes by the Cayo Saetia National Park, a natural reservation with wide flora diversity and exotic fauna. The Holguin province offers authentic Cuban communities like San Isidoro de Holguin itself, with 18th-century churches and sleepy plazas. The Sierra del Cristal range holds lush pine forests and Pico Cristal and Mensura national parks with the twin Guayabo waterfalls, Cuba’s highest.

· Cienfuegos – One of the later colonial cities of Cuba, Cienfuegos was founded by French nationals in 1819, yet it is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its remarkable concentration of 19th century architecture. The Jagua Castle at the entrance to the bay actually predates the city, erected in 1745 to protect ships from pirates. An overnight stay allows exploration of the city’s highlights, as well as cultural experiences and a visit to the colonial town of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

· Havana (La Habana) – Visit Cuba’s vivacious capital during its 500th anniversary in 2019. An overnight stay in the city offers ample opportunities to experience its history and enjoy the thriving music, dance and graphic arts scenes, as well connecting with artists, dancers and community projects. A highlight is Old Havana and its Fortification System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Havana invites guests to tour 16th-century plazas and Art Deco treasures in lovingly preserved vintage American cars from the 50s and 60s.

· Punta Francés, Isla de Juventud – This idyllic island is the second largest in Cuba, where Cuban vacationers snorkel and dive on coral reefs and shipwrecks in the National Marine Park. A hidden gem off the coast of Cuba, the island was once a pirate hideout. Now it supports farms dedicated to breeding sea turtles and crocodiles. The Punta del Este Caves are the “Sistine Chapel” of prehistoric Taino petroglyphs.

· Santiago de Cuba – Founded in 1515, Cuba’s cultural capital is filled with monuments of its colonial and revolutionary history, including UNESCO World Heritage Site San Pedro de la Roca Castle. Santiago will reward a two-day stay with highlights including its cathedrals and the museums of the Moncada Barracks, the Velazquez House, the Lucha Clandestina museum and the neighboring community of El Cobre and its Basilica de la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre. It is also the wellspring of all styles of Cuban music.

While off the ship, guests may join UNESCO Partner Tours exploring Cuba’s World Heritage cities including Santa Clara and Trinidad, the Biosphere Reserve at Las Terrazas, plus participatory excursions both by day and by night, tracing the Cuban culinary, musical and artistic heritage and including meetings with arts and community projects in Havana, Santiago and Cienfuegos. Additionally, a stop at Cienfuegos presents the opportunity for a special visit to the colonial town of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Cuba’s province of Sancti Spíritus. Why you should take a Cuba cruise

Posted By : Courtney Anderson/ 921 0

Hundreds of Canadians visit Cuba each year, luxuriating in the sun at resorts on sandy beaches, but did you know that Cuba has recently has opened up to cruises ships. It’s really one of the most exciting things that has happened to cruising in a long time and it’s definitely worth considering a cruise for your next visit to the island.  Here is a closer look at the advantages of cruise to Cuba.

Hospitality & Unspoiled Natural Beauty

Just 90 miles south of Key West, Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean. It exudes a wealth of natural beauty from its’ pristine, powdery white sand beaches to its’ lush mountains and beyond. Besides it’s exterior allure, the genuine hospitality of the Cuban people alone is a great reason to visit Cuba. You can experience this up close and personal through Cuba’s people-to-people exchange program.

1950’s Charm

Along with it’s unspoiled beauty comes a 1950’s charm, including those classic cars we’ve all seen in photographs. If you’re a classic car buff, wouldn’t you love to see these vehicles in person? As one of the few Caribbean islands that’s not North Americanized, you won’t find a McDonald’s anywhere in sight, which is exactly why I recommend visiting Cuba now, before anything changes. And this lack of North American influence also means that most items, including food at restaurants, remains relatively inexpensive.

History & Culture

One of the great things about visiting Cuba is its array of historical sites. You can wander along cobblestone streets dating back to the 16th-century in Old Havana (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) or discover the islands’ history through the Museum of the Revolution. And of course, there are tons of art galleries, a House of Rum museum and one of Hemingway’s favourite hang outs, Floridita, that’s across from the National Museum of Fine Arts of Havana.

Things to do in Cuba

Cuba is home to over 100 hiking and nature trails spread throughout its forests and mountains – you can even hike through the ruins of a 19th century French coffee plantation near Sierra Maestra. And what would a visit to Cuba be without experiencing the enchanting Afro-Cuban rhythms and/or taking a cigar factory tour? Again, I highly recommend doing both.

Why you should take a Cuba Cruise on Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun

One of the benefits that comes with cruising on Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun on a cruise to Cuba includes a complimentary open bar, which consists of free unlimited beverages and top-tier liquors. Another important benefit includes an overnight stay in Havana, which maximizes the time spent in port. And, of course, Freestyle Dining gives you the flexibility to dine whenever and wherever you’d like, and there’s always plenty of on board entertainment to enjoy.
