Line Also Unveils Ship’s Dramatic New Hull Design And Livery That Pays Homage to Company’s Legacy as America’s Cruise Line

MIAMI, Nov. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Carnival Cruise Line reaffirmed its place as the leader of innovation in the U.S. cruise industry today as the first steel was cut for the line’s newest class of ship and the new livery was revealed for the 180,000-ton XL vessel that will be the first-ever ship operating in North America to use liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The traditional steel-cutting ceremony held at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, signified the official start of construction of the largest Carnival cruise ship ever constructed, to be delivered in 2020. A second XL ship will start construction in 2020 and be delivered in 2022 to mark the 50th anniversary of Carnival Cruise Line’s founding.

At the ceremony, the company also revealed a dramatic new red, white and blue hull design that celebrates its legacy as America’s Cruise Line and pays homage to maritime tradition. Developed by New York-based Bluarch Architecture, the design builds upon the company’s iconic color scheme that has made Carnival one of the most recognizable brands in travel and is highlighted by a stately navy blue hull inspired by officers’ uniforms along with vibrant red and white accents running the entire length of the 1,130-foot-long ship.

“This new ship promises to be truly special, from its groundbreaking technology and one-of-a-kind features to its distinctive livery and hull design that is both timeless and forward-thinking while paying tribute to our nearly 50-year history of making wonderful vacation memories for our guests,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Following the steel-cutting ceremony, construction began on the 5,200-plus lower berth ship which will offer a variety of never-before-seen innovations and will be the first North American-based cruise ship to be powered by LNG, part of Carnival Corporation’s “green cruising” design platform.

“The start of construction of this amazing ship is a historic day for our company as we are laying the foundation for an unparalleled seagoing vacation experience that will be like no other and take our cruise offerings to the next level,” Duffy said.

“We are extremely pleased to work together with Carnival on this large and highly innovative ship. With the first steel cutting, our efforts in designing the hull, features and interior of the ship start to take shape. We are also very proud to build the first-ever LNG powered cruise ship for North American market, making this state-of-the-art green technology a reality,” commented Jan Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku.

As previously announced, the as-yet-unnamed ship will operate from Port Canaveral, Fla., beginning in 2020. The ship’s name is scheduled to be revealed in early December. Details on the ship’s inaugural season are planned to be announced in January, with information on the vessel’s vast array of exciting culinary, beverage and entertainment options to be revealed later in 2019.

The menu will feature a mouth-watering variety of fried chicken sandwiches and fries, with flavors to match Shaq’s larger than life personality, all free of charge.

O’Neal opened his first land-based Big Chicken restaurant in Las Vegas in late October. The seagoing adaptation Big Chicken aboard Carnival Radiance will be among the many food, dining and entertainment innovations incorporated into the 102,000-ton ship following a $200 million refurbishment in Cadiz, Spain, in 2020.

“Shaq has brought so much to our brand as Chief Fun Officer and we are always looking for ways to expand on this wonderful relationship and provide our guests with new ways to Choose Fun,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Knowing his passion for food and fun, we’re thrilled to work with Shaq to bring the first Big Chicken at sea aboard the totally transformed Carnival Radiance.”

“As Chief Fun Officer, I want to bring even more fun to every aspect of a Carnival cruise, including what guests eat,” said O’Neal. “Big Chicken has been a dream of mine and now that our land-based restaurant is open, it’s only natural to bring it to sea, as well. I’m really excited that Carnival Radiance guests will be able to enjoy my own delicious creations alongside all the other great food offerings on board.”

Located aft on Lido Deck, Big Chicken will tantalize vacationers’ taste buds with a delectable array of fried chicken favorites, all developed and taste-tested by the NBA Hall of Famer himself based on his own recipes.

A variety of fried chicken sandwiches will be featured, with playful monikers inspired by Shaq’s litany of clever nicknames for himself, along with his own take on traditional sides.

Breakfast will be offered as well with choices like chicken and egg biscuits that serve as the perfect morning accompaniment. Service is a breeze, with patrons placing their order at the counter and picking up their items right away – no waiting and best of all, it’s free.

Big Chicken is among the many new culinary and beverage offerings that will be available on Carnival Radiance when it debuts in 2020. Other outlets include Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse developed by Food Network star and longtime partner Guy Fieri, a classic American steakhouse called Fahrenheit 555, the Cucina del Capitano family-style Italian restaurant, and the Caribbean-inspired RedFrog Pub.

Guy Fieri’s Family Vacation Featured in Fun Video on Carnival.com

October 11, 2018 ~ The seagoing adventures of Food Network star and longtime Carnival partner Guy Fieri – whose wildly popular burger and barbecue venues are a staple throughout the Carnival Cruise Line fleet – are showcased in a fun online video feature within the line’s web site, carnival.com.

Fieri brought along nearly 50 of his relatives – some of which he hadn’t seen in years – sailing aboard Carnival Vista for six days of fun, family and, of course, food.

During the self-proclaimed “Guy-ded Tour,” Fieri and his crew checked out all of Carnival Vista’s tasty culinary choices, including a sumptuous multi-course meal at The Chef’s Table, family-style Italian at Cucina del Capitano, and smoked and grilled favorites at his namesake restaurants, Guy’s Burger Joint and Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse. The accomplished chef and restaurateur even got behind the grill to dish out his famous hand-crafted burgers and fries to hungry Carnival Vista guests.

When they weren’t relaxing in the aqua-blue waters of the Caribbean, the Fieri clan also took full advantage of the ship’s spectacular outdoor features like the SkyRide aerial attraction, along with a suspended ropes and the WaterWorks aqua park, culminating in an epic family dodge ball game in SportSquare on Lido Deck.

As Fieri proclaims in the video, “This is exactly what all of this is supposed to be!”

Young Cruisers On Carnival Cruise Line This Summer Read An Astonishing 213 Million Dr. Seuss Words As Part Of Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge Aboard All 26 Ships

Part of Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children’s Books first-ever Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge, Carnival’s Fleetwide Program Highlighted by Read-A-Louds by Sports Stars in New Orleans, LA and Long Beach, CA

MIAMI, Aug. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — As part of Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children’s Books Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge to promote literacy, kids sailing aboard Carnival Cruise Line this summer read an astonishing 213 million Dr. Seuss words through fun, educational activities across the line’s 26-ship fleet, helping to surpass the goal of 100 million Dr. Seuss words read during the campaign.

Events were highlighted by book readings to local children by New Orleans Saints tight end Ben Watson aboard Carnival Triumph in New Orleans and Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Kike Hernandez in Long Beach. Donning Dr. Seuss’ signature striped hat, Watson and Hernandez gave spirited readings of the new Dr. Seuss classic “What Pet Should I Get?” while extolling the benefits of reading to hundreds of kids from local summer camps and social service organizations.

Young cruisers sailing on Carnival ships in June and July were also encouraged to read as many Dr. Seuss words as possible during summertime book reading sessions on board and then log their words and monitor their progress using a word tracker on Seussville.com. Children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee – one of Carnival’s favorite charitable partners – also participated and were treated to a special reading of “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” by hospital survivors.

All those who registered and entered their Dr. Seuss word count at Seussville.com before July 31 were also eligible to win a free Carnival cruise.

Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge is part of Seuss at Sea, Carnival’s exclusive partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises that showcases the wonderful words and world of the famous children’s author through family-oriented entertainment, youth activities and dining experiences. Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children’s Books launched the first-ever Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge on May 29. Readers responded so quickly to the campaign and original goal of reading 20 million Dr. Seuss words that the goal was increased and expanded it to an incredible 100 million word goal.

“Carnival Cruise Line is the leader in family cruising carrying more than 800,000 kids a year and we’re very proud to be the Official Seagoing Partner of Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge which serves to reinforce the importance of reading – even on vacation – in a fun and creative way,” said Caroline Lombardi, director of youth programming for Carnival Cruise Line.

Added Susan Brandt, president of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, “Our Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge was one of our most successful literacy promotion programs ever and hats off to the kids of Carnival Cruise Line for doing their part and helping us surpass our goal by reading an amazing 213 million words at sea.”

Launched in 2014, Seuss at Sea has become one of the most popular children’s programs in the travel industry and includes such fun activities as The Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with The Cat in the Hat and Friends and the Seuss-a-Palooza Parade and Story Time, as well as character interactions, Dr. Seuss toys and games, and popular movies shown on board.

Dr. Seuss Bookville, a vibrant and colorful family reading venue, is also featured on select ships, including the new Carnival Horizon which debuted this year and also offers the first-ever Dr. Seuss water park at sea.

Carnival Cruise Line revamping Specialty Dining and Breakfast Menus

MIAMI, Nov. 29, 2017 — As part of its ongoing effort to keep its culinary offerings fresh and exciting for its guests, Carnival Cruise Line is revamping the menus for several of its specialty dining venues and reintroducing Baked Alaska across the fleet.

The menus for Carnival’s steakhouses, Cucina del Capitano family-style Italian restaurants, and delis, as well as main dining room breakfast offerings, have undergone a transformation with a variety of tantalizing new items reflecting lighter ingredients, updated preparation techniques and exquisite presentation to keep pace with changing palates.

Baked Alaska – a classic dessert made of cake and ice cream topped with merengue – is also being reintroduced after several years with uniformed waiters performing the time-honored tradition of parading the tasty confection throughout the dining room prior to service.

The updated steakhouse menus, currently available on three ships, offer mouth-watering appetizers such as Iced and Smoked Fresh Oysters with Apple Mignonette; Tuna Tartare with Yuzu Sphere and Avocado “Leche de Tiger”; Risotto with Crab, Mushroom and Brown Butter, and Heritage Berkshire Pork Belly with Apple Walnut Preserve.  These complement a selection of USDA prime steaks, including new items such as an A-5 Wagyu steak and lighter fare like Farmhouse Chicken with Roasted Honey Vinegar and Dover Sole Pan-Seared with Lemon Potato-Mousseline and Shallot Emulsion.  Four additional ships are expected to get the new menus by early next year.

The new menu for Cucina del Capitano reflects the diversity of Italy’s culinary regions, with dishes like Branzino Al Forno in Crosta Dorata with tomatoes, stewed chickpeas, salmoriglio and mushroom bark, along with Risotto Milanese with saffron and Parmesan cheese, Grande Braciola Di Maiale – a tomahawk pork chop with fennel pollen, shallots and crispy sage – and Costina Di Manzo Con Porcini with salsa verde and young tomato bruschetta.   House-made burrata – an Italian favorite made with mozzarella and cream and distinguished by its rich buttery flavor – has been added to menus as well, with classic Italian favorites like chicken Parmesan, meatballs and fried calamari also available.   The new Cucina del Capitano menus are currently on three ships – Carnival Magic, Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze – with Carnival Sunshine expected to updated next month.

Breakfast menus in the main dining rooms are just as varied with delicious options such as avocado toast; a Breakfast Bowl featuring kale, spinach, faro wheat berries, sesame seeds, feta cheese, raspberries and a sunny side up egg; and fresh-baked Broccoli and Cheddar Egg Frittata.  There’s also a Broken Egg Sandwich served panini-style with fried eggs, bacon, cheddar, greens and hash browns; and a “Breakfast Board” with a soft boiled egg, house-made yogurt, seasonal jam, baby lettuce salad, pastrami, and grilled sour dough bread.   For those on the go, a new “breakfast express” is available on port days featuring orange juice, eggs, hickory-smoked bacon or sausage and pastries, all “in and out” within 25 minutes.  An assortment of traditional breakfast favorites such as French toast, pancakes and cereals is also offered.   Thus far, 12 ships feature the popular new breakfast items with the balance of the fleet expected to receive the new menus by mid-2018.

The line’s delis have undergone a dramatic change, as well, with an updated design and host of new choices, including seven sandwiches such as meatball, buffalo chicken, and The Cubano with roasted pork, ham, pickles, mustard and Swiss cheese, along with Southwest chicken, falafel and turkey wraps.  Diners can enjoy a sweet finish to their meal with a Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie baked fresh every morning.

Carnival is also re-branding its 24-hour pizzerias to Pizzeria del Capitano offering five kinds of hand-tossed, thin-crusted pies – from Margherita and pepperoni to artisan-style quattro formaggio, mushroom, and prosciutto.   The re-branded delis and pizzerias will be incorporated into additional vessels during scheduled dry docks.

With the popularity of Seafood Shack which debuted on Carnival Vista last year and offering lobster rolls, fried clams, chowder and other New England-inspired fare, the concept has been expanded to nine additional ships.
