Seabourn Signs Letter Of Intent With New Partnership Between Shipbuilders T. Mariotti And Damen To Build Two Ultra-Luxury Expedition Ships, With First Delivery In Summer 2021

SEATTLE, July 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Seabourn, the world’s finest ultra-luxury cruise line, announced today that it has signed a Letter of Intent for the construction of two new ultra-luxury expedition ships with a new partnership between shipbuilders T.Mariotti and Damen, who will collaborate on the construction of the vessels under a common name MARIOTTI DAMEN Cruise.
The new ships will be a brand new innovative design, created specifically for the ultra-luxury expedition traveler, and will include many features that have made Seabourn ships so successful as well as a host of unique features designed to enhance the expedition experience. The first delivery is expected in June 2021 and the second ship is anticipated in May 2022.

The 170 meter, 23,000 gross ton vessels will add new capacity for Seabourn in Antarctica, the Arctic, and other exotic destinations around the world while meeting PC6 Polar Class standards. Each will feature 132 luxurious oceanfront veranda suites, which will be home for up to 264 guests.

“This is a groundbreaking moment for Seabourn and for luxury travelers, who will now find a new standard of authentic yet luxurious expedition adventures in new and amazing destinations few people will ever see,” said Richard Meadows, president of Seabourn. “The combination of immersive experience, fine accommodations, and sumptuous amenities offered by these new ships builds on the success of our current product lineup and further demonstrates our leadership as innovators as we continue offering the finest ultra-luxury cruises available.”

As vessels built exclusively for expedition travel, the ships will offer amenities designed to deliver an unparalleled guest experience in some of the most remote areas in the world. A new and exciting offering will be two submarines carried onboard, providing an unforgettable view of the world beneath the ocean’s surface. The ships will also be designed to carry a complement of kayaks and 24 Zodiac inflatable boats, which have operated as a part of the highly successful Ventures by Seabourn program offered in select destinations around the world.

“It’s been amazing to watch the growth of our expedition-style experiences since our first sailing to Antarctica in 2013 through today, where we now offer the Ventures by Seabourn program in a number of desirable destinations around the world,” said Robin West, vice president of Expedition Operations and Planning for Seabourn. “A year ago we started developing the concept for this next chapter of our expedition story with dedicated ships built to take luxury travelers to the most coveted places on the planet and they will be thrilled to see these remote destinations in Seabourn style.”

Seabourn will announce design and service details for the new ships beginning later this year. Specific details about itineraries and booking availability will be released in early 2019. The first ship is currently planned to sail in the Arctic in late summer 2021, with a full winter season in Antarctica to follow.

Onboard crew will include outstanding and well-traveled expedition teams comprised of experienced wilderness experts, scientists, historians and Zodiac operators. During each sailing, team members regularly interact with guests, providing keen insight to deliver a rich holistic travel experience. These fascinating, accomplished experts are also part of the Seabourn Conversations program, providing in-depth insights into the history, ecology and culture of the places they visit. Their valuable insights are offered both in complimentary formal presentations on a variety of topics and in more casual conversations over meals or at leisure.

Seabourn continues to represent the pinnacle of ultra-luxury travel with intimate ships offering key elements that set the line apart: spacious, thoughtfully appointed suites, many with verandas and all 100% ocean front; superb dining in a choice of venues; complimentary premium spirits and fine wines available on board at all times; award-winning service and a relaxed, sociable atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home on board. The ships travel the globe to many of the world’s most desirable destinations, including marquee cities, more than 170 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and lesser-known ports and hideaways.

The leader in polar cruising is constructing the first next-generation icebreaker

EXCLUSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT – discover the new PONANT Icebreaker.
Reach the Geographic North Pole, complete an Arctic Ocean crossing, discover Greenland’s extreme North East…beginning in 2021, PONANT will be taking guests in the footsteps of the great polar explorers aboard a next-generation icebreaker—the first of its kind in the world of cruising.

With a refined onboard ambiance and luxury services—never before available in the far extremes of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres—with the new icebreaker vessel PONANT provides not just cruises, but veritable polar odysseys.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AT THE HEART OF ITS DESIGN
The first ever PC2 Polar Class luxury cruise ship, this hybrid electric icebreaker is powered by Liquified Natural Gas—cutting edge technology that makes PONANT a pioneer in environmental protection.

The Icebreaker features Perfected “Clean Ship” fittings that go beyond the current industry-standard environmental regulations:
> Reduction of SO2, NOX, CO2 and particle emissions thanks to the use of LNG
> Zero emissions when in electric hybrid mode
> Use of advanced diesel engine technology
> Compliance with new IMO (International Maritime Organization) 2020 regulation on Sulphur emission levels
> Compliance with ECA requirements (Emission Control Area)

Energy management
> Energy optimization system that precisely measures consumptions and optimization of ship sailing methods
> Waste Heat Recovery System
> Electric output optimized and consumption reduced through the use of latest generation electric batteries

Water treatment
> Advanced Waste Water Treatment system

ABSOLUTELY BRAND-NEW ITINERARIES DESIGNED BY PONANT’S RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
Drawing on more than two decades of experience in sensitive regions, PONANT is the only cruise company in the world to design its future itineraries in-house, with its own expedition teams. Thanks to exploratory visits, Environmental Impact Assessments and the protocols developed by the company, the itineraries of the PONANT Icebreaker will be established with the greatest respect for the environment.

Nicolas Dubreuil, Head of expedition at PONANT

“With this extraordinary tool for exploration we are going to have available, we are working with a brand new concept in travel. The PONANT Icebreaker is going to enable us to visit places previously unexplored until now due to their extreme remoteness. I’ve already imagined winter expedition cruises across the Nunavut ice field, and to Greenland, to get within close proximity of the Inuit camps.

Our passengers will be able to leave the ship and go out onto the ice for an immersive experience of this hunting people’s way of life. Similarly, we will also be able to get up close to the emperor penguins that inhabit the ice shelves in the Antarctic. As for the Geographic North Pole, it will no longer be an inaccessible dream. PONANT will soon have at its disposal the very first passenger ship capable of reaching this mythical destination.”

AN INNOVATION DEVELOPED IN COLLABORATION WITH AKER ARCTIC, GLOBAL SPECIALIST IN ICE-SAILING TECHNOLOGIES
The PC2 Polar Class hull of the PONANT Icebreaker was designed with Aker Arctic to combine forward sailing modes through compact ice and reverse sailing in extreme ice conditions, thank to the Double Action principle (Aker Arctic DAS™). With its innovative design, the PONANT Icebreaker offers unrivalled ice performances compared with classic icebreakers.
