Crystal Endeavor Expeditions

Posted By : Courtney Anderson/ 669 0

On August 10, 2020, Crystal Endeavor will embark on her maiden voyage from Tokyo. The groundbreaking vessel under Crystal Expedition Cruises will sail a remote and remarkable journey through the islands of Japan and the Russian Far East, Antarctica via the Ross Sea; New Zealand and Tasmania; Australia and the Great Barrier Reef; and Borneo, Indonesia and the Philippines.

We are most excited for the Crystal Endeavor’s Indonesian Immersive & the Great Barrier Reef that sails for 16 nights from Bali to Cairns on October 15, 2020.  You’ll journey through the legendary Spice Islands and Papua New Guinea, to Komodo Island where you may encounter its famous dragons. And of course the breathtaking underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef.

Throughout this voyage you’ll want to don your wet suit for fascinating deep water discoveries like Lizard Island, nestled within the spectacular Great Barrier Reef and Ribbon Reef, constituting approximately 125 miles of it. Lizard Island is an ideal spot for expedition adventures that range from snorkeling to rugged hikes through mangroves and acacia woodlands in search of the yellow-spotted monitor lizard and even taking the time to sun yourself along white sand beaches. Ribbon Reef presents opportunities to dive deep into the coves, caves and canyons that house a rainbow of sea life within an isolated haven of turquoise. In Kalabahi, Indonesia, a snorkeling adventure will take you to the coastal waters of Pura Island, where the coral reefs still thrive and tropical fish dart in and out, playing hide-and-seek with visitors. You may also meet some of the local Alor tribe, who farm and fish the land.

There are adventures and eye-opening discoveries in each of these spectacular destination, and even aboard the expedition ship itself.

Expert local naturalists of the highest calibre—one for every ten guests, providing the highest ratio of guides-per-guest in the Galapagos—will share their knowledge and insights, as they lead complimentary excursions. A fleet of eight Zodiac crafts—the largest in the region on a per-guest basis—and kayaks will enhance the adventure with on-water exploration.

In 2020, two special extended voyages are planned for the holiday season: departing December 19, 2020, guests will be able to travel deeper into the destination on an 11-day voyage from San Cristobal to Baltra, while a 12-day New Year’s cruise will depart Baltra on December 29, 2020, concluding in San Cristobal.

Seven Seas Explorer Regent Suite master bedroom

Why We Can’t Wait for Regent’s Seven Seas Splendor

Posted By : Courtney Anderson/ 1566 0

When the Seven Seas Explorer debuted in 2016, it was christened “the most luxurious ship ever built.” Now, Seven Seas Splendor, its highly anticipated sister ship, aims to take everything that works about Explorer and dial in the luxury even more. Is that possible? Here are six reasons we’re looking forward to Splendor’s debut next February.

1. There’ll be more Explorer-style cruising to go around.

When Joan Novack boarded Seven Seas Explorer for its preinaugural sailing three years ago, the Virtuoso travel advisor was blown away. “As I walked onto the ship, the most magnificent lobby surrounded me,” she says. “From that point on, I was in awe of how beautiful this ship is. The amenities are lavish in the suites, the dining venues, the spa, and all the public rooms.” A longtime fan of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Novack has since enjoyed three – soon to be four – additional voyages on her favorite ship. “Until someone builds something to top it, Explorer truly is the most luxurious ship ever built,” she says. And that someone, she adds, “will probably be Regent, with the Splendor.”

2. When Regent strives, opulence wins.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises president and CEO Jason Montague described the approach to creating Splendor as “obsessing over large and small details.” Those large details likely include the 46,000 square feet (we’re talking more than an acre) of Italian marble that will adorn Splendor’s interior – including the posh bathrooms in the 375 suites. As for those small things, look for specially commissioned original artwork throughout the ship and thoughtful touches such as lined jewelry drawers and designated spaces for designer handbags in the Penthouse Suite.

Like Explorer, the 750-guest Seven Seas Splendor will offer the maximum space and an emphasis on service, boasting one of the highest space ratios and lowest guest-to-crew ratios among cruise lines. Guests will also have plenty of room to stretch out in the fresh air, thanks to nearly 52,000 square feet (larger than a football field) of balcony space.

3. Regent Suite shatters records in a big way.

Palatial doesn’t begin to describe the Regent Suite, the largest suite ever constructed on a luxury cruise ship. Commanding the 14th deck, above the bridge and overlooking the bow, this splurge-worthy accommodation offers more than 3,000 square feet of interior space and a 1,300-square-foot wraparound veranda, complete with a hot tub on the forward balcony. (This is where you’ll catch those gorgeous sunsets, a glass of Veuve Clicquot in hand.)

Expect sweet dreams while sleeping on the custom, handcrafted, $200,000 Vividus bed; the king-size mattress took over 18 months to complete to Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ exacting standards. Splendor’s Regent Suite boasts a master bath and spa 30 percent larger than its predecessor on the Explorer in order to incorporate a floor-to-ceiling ocean-view shower.

“The Regent Suite, for those lucky enough to experience it, is over the top,” Novack says. “Guests never have to leave, as meals and spa services are available in their plush surroundings at all times. This suite even comes with a private car and driver in every port on the sailing.”

Ready to indulge? Don’t hesitate. The Regent Suite is already sold out for nearly all of Seven Seas Splendor’s 2020 inaugural season sailings.

4. The captain, too, is breaking records.

Someone we can’t wait to meet: Captain Serena Melani. The first woman in cruise history to captain a new cruise ship at launch, she’ll helm Seven Seas Splendor when it debuts next year. Melani joined the cruise line in 2010 and has led Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Mariner, and Seven Seas Navigator since becoming the company’s first female master captain in 2016. “Captain Melani has distinguished herself as a trailblazer in the maritime and cruise industries,” Montague says. “She is an international role model and admired by our guests and crew.”

5. Regent’s all-inclusive amenities are still around and still awesome.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has made a name for itself by offering guests an unrivaled, all-inclusive, luxury cruise experience. That includes complimentary business-class air on international flights for all guests, regardless of suite category.

6. Stellar onboard dining is paired with exclusive, hands-on culinary excursions.

Please your palate and expand your culinary knowledge while exploring the world’s top foodie destinations. Chef-led Gourmet Explorer tours, available for Seven Seas Explorer and Seven Seas Splendor passengers only, invite you to experience a region’s culinary culture with market visits, winetastings, cooking demos, hands-on classes, and meals at acclaimed local restaurants.

In Bilbao, Spain, tour Mercado de la Ribera; back on board, don an apron for a tapas and pintxos cooking class. During the call at Taormina, Italy, learn how to prepare cannoli with a Sicilian pastry chef. Experience an extra-virgin olive oil tasting in Barcelona, followed by lunch at Michelin two-starred restaurant ABaC. And in Saint-Malo, in Brittany, France, sit down to a meal prepared by chef Julien Hennote, recipient of the prized Escoffier trophy.

Regent currently offers 19 Gourmet Explorer tours as part of the Regent Choice Shore Excursion program.

Celebrity Edge - The Spa Float Room

3 Things I liked about the Celebrity Edge

Posted By : Shelley Greenan/ 0 0

I’ve cruised many times before never with Celebrity Cruises so I jumped at the chance to be part of a Travel Advisor opportunity to spend a few days on their newest ship, the Celebrity Edge. She is a beautiful ship with many many great things for everyone to enjoy, but I just picked 3 Things I liked best about this ship!

THE SPA
This is a wonderful wellness spa, with many options beyond the typical aesthetic services such as Salt therapy rooms, a Crystalarium, Float Room, Turkish baths and a steam room and sauna.

THE INCLUDED RESTAURANTS
We were in Aqua Class so we had access to Blu. LOVED Blu. Great food. Great service. Lovely setting. Comfortable chairs. If something wasn’t on the menu, they would get it for me.

I liked that some of the other included restaurants were smaller venues. Gave it a more intimate atmosphere, quiet instead of the huge, noisy two level dining experience you get on some ships.

SPACES
I loved the design and connection of sea with land onboard. Lots of greenery and wood all around, very calming and not overwhelming to the eyes. Plenty of comfortable spots scattered throughout to relax or people watch (one of my favourite things to do!)

AmaWaterways Welcomes New Ship AmaDouro

Celebrations Mark Arrival of Company’s Second Ship in Portugal; AmaWaterways Executives, Valued Partners and First-Ever UK Godmother, Julia Lo Bue-Said, Gather in Porto for Christening

Calabasas, CA – (Apr. 12, 2019) – AmaWaterways today christened its newest river cruise ship, AmaDouro, with a festive ceremony in Porto, Portugal. The christening put the final touch on AmaDouro’s inaugural sailing – which began in Porto and returned today for the special evening event hosted by AmaWaterways co-founders Rudi Schreiner and Kristin Karst. Honorary guest, Advantage Travel Partnership Chief Executive Officer and AmaDouro Godmother, Julia Lo Bue-Said was joined by respected travel industry partners, international media and other guests for the celebration.

“The arrival of every new ship is exciting for us at AmaWaterways, but we are particularly thrilled to be adding AmaDouro to this spectacular region that we proudly helped introduce when sister ship AmaVida was first launched in 2013,” said Schreiner. “We are very happy to have our friends and partners join us here today as this 21st addition to our fleet marks the beginning of a banner year for our company.”

Following a long-standing tradition associated with ship christenings that originates more than 4,000 years ago, a priest blessed the ship and crew, and Captain Pedro Sardo assisted as Godmother Lo Bue-Said broke a champagne bottle against AmaDouro’s hull, signifying good luck on the journeys ahead.

“We are very happy to have Julia officially welcome this new addition to our family,” said Karst. “It is our way of celebrating the incredible growth and our strong commitment to the UK travel advisor community, as we work together to bring more guests from around the world to this unspoiled region of Europe.”

Reflecting true “AmaFamily” values, Schreiner and Karst surprised their first British godmother, who was accompanied by her husband and youngest son, by flying in her eldest son for the ceremony. Guests joined in the festivities, which included speeches by Schreiner, Karst and Lo Bue-Said, lively local entertainment featuring folk dancers and fado singers, regionally-inspired cocktails, and a gala dinner.

“I’m very honored to be godmother of this incredible ship,” said Lo Bue-Said. “AmaDouro has truly exceeded my expectations of river cruising, from the ship herself to the unparalleled guest service and curated shore excursions. Traveling through Portugal and welcoming this ship with my family has been an unforgettable experience, and I am honored to help officially welcome AmaDouro to AmaWaterways’ extraordinary fleet.”

AmaDouro offers 51 spacious, elegantly designed staterooms, most with outside balconies to enjoy beautiful views of hills and vineyards along the UNESCO-designated Douro River Valley. Additional amenities include a Panoramic Lounge for nightly entertainment, a heated Sun Deck swimming pool, fitness room, massage room and the company’s renowned cuisine at the Main Restaurant, serving regionally-inspired dishes and hand-selected wines.

Joining sister ship AmaVida which sails between Porto and Vega Terron, AmaDouro will be based in Porto and offer seven-night roundtrip Enticing Douro cruises with a three-night pre-cruise land program in Lisbon. AmaDouro is the first of three new ships that will be added to AmaWaterways’ innovative fleet this year. Other new ships making their debut include AmaMora, sister ship to AmaLea and AmaKristina, sailing on the Rhine, and the revolutionary AmaMagna on the Danube.

Expedition Lounge: The Expedition Lounge, located on Deck 4, is the heart of the ship. A gathering place for the curious, guests are invited to relax or linger with a complimentary cocktail or glass of fine wine from the bar as they share photos and stories from the day with their fellow travelers and the onboard staff. The Expedition Lounge will be central to the Seabourn expedition operation where guests convene before and after expeditions each day.

Custom furniture designed in a variety of warm, natural materials creates an inviting, tactile atmosphere. An ode to the adventurous, the Expedition Lounge features an etched glass partition displaying a vintage map of Antarctica and vitrines showcasing intricate tools and devices of the trade. Two large touchscreens will also display a wealth of information including photos, navigational charts, weather charts, and maps.

Discovery Center: The Discovery Center, which is adjacent to the Expedition Lounge on Deck 4, acts as the teaching & academic center for natural history and cultural programming in an environment spacious enough to accommodate all guests at one time. Each day, guests will visit this venue for insightful lectures, briefings, and Seabourn Conversations enrichment programming designed to help educate them throughout their expedition experience. The world-class 26-person expedition team of wilderness experts, scientists, historians and naturalists will deliver rich, insightful lectures and discussions on a broad array of topics related to the region where guests are sailing. Inspired by the compelling landscape of some of the expedition destinations, the Discovery Center incorporates the organic shapes of topography maps against the elegant curves of the plush custom seating.

Audio-visual experiences will come to life through high-definition screens 2.5 meters high by 10 meters wide, showing a variety of programming to create a captivating experience that whets the appetite and creates excitement for each destination. Footage from daily submarine voyages will also be shown, providing an enticing look at the undersea world and the marine life that calls it home.

Landing Zone: The launch and recovery point for landings, each of the two Landing Zones – Port & Starboard, both located on Deck 3 – will be a generous 60 square meters in size, allowing guests to change and clean their gear in comfort while also providing space to store their rubber boots. The Landing Zone, commonly known as a mud room, has been designed for extreme functionality and accessibility with a durable material palette and optimum location on the ship to allow guests direct access to one of the 24 Zodiacs available for off-ship adventures. In tropical areas, the Landing Zones will also be used for snorkeling and similar activities, with storage space for fins and masks. Guests will move through the two Landing Zones in small groups distributed evenly to keep waiting time and crowding to a minimum for excursion departures. From the Landing Zones, the attentive staff will guide guests down one flight of stairs to Deck 2, where guests step directly from the ship into the Zodiacs to head off across the water or onward to a landing point ashore.

Atrium: The Atrium is a focal point on all Seabourn ships with its elegant winding staircase. On Seabourn’s expedition ships, the sky lit space will continue the wood and metal detailing present throughout the ship with details such as rhythmically placed ropework in place of more traditional spindles and a topography inspired wall treatment. Suspended at the center of the Atrium and echoed again at its base is a captivating art display emulating traditional wind measuring instruments.

More details about public spaces and suites on the new expedition ships will continue to be revealed in the coming months. Specific details about itineraries and booking availability will be released in mid-2019.
